Geisha Collage

This is one of the collage that I did in my portfolio. It's puzzled together with random magazine paper. The girl is a Japanese Geisha, the primitive Japanese dancer and singer. Geisha is a well recognized symbol of Japan. It represents the aesthetic aspect of Japanese culture and Asian beauty. I personally loved this piece very much! Hope u like it too :D

Physical or Sedentary?

"Of course physical!" I shouted out the answer in my head within less than a second. I have a great amount of passion towards physical activities. I love outdoor activities and the sunshine. Ever since I was a little girl, I enjoyed spending my time outside swinging around the monkey bars in the playground. I have unstoppable energy and it never runs out. I was pretty much a little boy before I went into grade 5. Every year when we go on vacation, I would choose to go somewhere with burning sunshine, golden beach and vast sea. I went diving when I was only seven, and was accompanied by a professional diver. The coach taught me the hand signals that I could use in the water to tell him if I wanted to go deeper or go back to the water surface. I also learned how to put on the diving suit and goggles properly. The time when I went diving for the first time, it was my dad who couldn't stand me begging him to allow to me dive anymore, so he gave in and granted me the permission to go with a trainer. After when my mom found out, she freaked out. She thought it was extremely dangerous for a little kid like me and my dad was being ridiculously irresponsible.

Although my mom dislikes many activities that I enjoy, such as horseback riding, rock climbing and diving because she thinks that  they are dangerous, she still supports my hobby of doing other outdoor activities. Now I'm in high school, with abundant amount of homework and a bunch of paintings waiting for me to finish, I barely have anytime for physical exercises anymore. But on weekends or pro-d days, I would do yoga or simple workouts by myself at home, to maintain a healthy lifestyle. And sometimes after dinner I would go on a walk with Alex in the neighbourhood and walk my bunnies. (I'm not kidding, I actually walk my bunnies on leash.)

I suggest that everyone, no matter how old you are or how busy you are, spare a small portion of your precious time to do some physical/outdoor exercises. It will make you look good and healthy on the inside and outside! :)

Favourite film director / artist - Tim Burton

In the films directed and produced by Tim Burton the most apparent characteristic is the visual style. The strange worlds and their stylized look have a design that is unique and recognizable. This style is most influenced by the German Expressionist films from the 1920’s. The highly contrasting dark and light, distorted perspectives and dark and stylize lighting reflect not only German Expressionist film but also the horror films of Universal in the 1930’s as well as science fiction B-movies of the 1950’s. This stylized look is used to some extent in all of his films, due to him being a fan of these types of films growing up. Tim Burton’s love for all things macabre, dark and bizarre has highly influenced the visual style of his films.

Tim Burton also created unforgettable characters such as Willy Wonka from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Caroline, Jack etc. And Johnny Depp frequently appears in Burton's movie as the main character. With his evil smirk and dreary eyes, Johnny Depp is definitely the most suitable actor for Burton's Movies.

Favourite designer no.1 - Alexander McQueen

Lee McQueen, who would later find fame as fashion visionary Alexander McQueen, was born on 17 March 1969 in London.

The boy destined for a future in high fashion came from a very modest background. His father was a cabbie and Lee McQueen grew up in council house in East London.

By the time he was sixteen, McQueen had decided to devote himself entirely to fashion. He dropped out of school and took an apprenticeship at the Savile Row tailors Anderson and Shepherd. This experience gave him the opportunity to sharpen his technical skills and tailoring, for which he later became famous.

He progressed to Gieves and Hawkes and then to costumiers Angels and Bermans. The variety of his apprenticeships gave him the opportunity to master many different tailoring techniques.

From tailoring on Savile Row, McQueen made the transition to working alongside Koji Tatsuno and at the age of 21 he moved to Milan to work with Romeo Gigli. McQueen completed masters degree in fashion design at the prestigious Central St. Martins College, where he had originally just hoped to be a pattern cutter. His collection, the culmination of his apprenticeships, received keen media attention and firmly established him as a promising young fashion designer.

He then set about making a name for himself. His shows were remarkably theatrical and his brutally sharp style brought him much attention and acclaim.

He also crafted a reputation. McQueen, by virtue of a petulant bad boy image and frequent outbursts, became ‘L’Enfant Terrible’. Attitude in tow, McQueen and his new self-titled label were taking over fashionable London.

He won the British Designer of the Year Award in 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003. In 1997, he was employed by couture house Givenchy and promptly, and impudently, dismissed the label’s founder, Hubert de Givenchy, as ‘irrelevant’. Subsequently, his first Givenchy line bombed.

McQueen, however, was still respected in the fashion world and was allowed a second chance, a great mark of respect in a notoriously unforgiving industry. In 2000, Gucci purchased a controlling interest in the McQueen line. This move ended McQueen’s tumultuous relationship with Givenchy and gave him a greater creative license.

In 2003, McQueen was presented with the International Award by The Council of Fashion Designers of America and also received a CBE. By 2007, he had opened boutiques in cities across the world, including in Las Vegas, New York and Milan. And A list celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicole Kidman were wearing his creations on red carpets from LA to London.

It was announced on 11 February 2010 that McQueen had been found dead at his Mayfair home. The news came just days after the death of his beloved mother, Joyce.

Lee McQueen will be remembered for introducing us to the “bumster”, for his fabulous tailoring, outrageous style and enormous talent. He is much mourned by the fashion community.

One of my favourite psychological novel - The Quiet Room by Lori Schiller

At seventeen Lori Schiller was the perfect child -- the only daughter of an affluent, close-knit family. Six years later she made her first suicide attempt, then wandered the streets of New York City dressed in ragged clothes, tormenting voices crying out in her mind. Lori Schiller had entered the horrifying world of full-blown schizophrenia. She began an ordeal of hospitalizations, halfway houses, relapses, more suicide attempts, and constant, withering despair. But against all odds, she survived. Now in this personal account, she tells how she did it, taking us not only into her own shattered world, but drawing on the words of the doctors who treated her and family members who suffered with her.

In this new edition, Lori Schiller recounts the dramatic years following the original publication -- a period involving addiction, relapse, and ultimately, love and recovery.

Moving, harrowing, and ultimately uplifting, THE QUIET ROOM is a classic testimony to the ravages of mental illness and the power of perserverance and courage.
